The Malayan Tapir ( Tapirus indicus), also called the Asian Tapir, is an ancient mammal species .In the Malay language, the tapir is commonly referred to as "Cipan", "Kipan", "Tenuk", "Badak Tenuk", "Badak Babi", "Kuda Air" or "Senuk". There are 4 species of Tapir, one in Asia and the other three in Central and South America. The Malayan Tapir is the largest of the four species and the only one native to Southeast Asia. This species is easily identified by its black and white fur colouring. Although this pattern seems very conspicuous, it actually helps the primarily nocturnal tapir to camouflage itself in the jungle at night. Tapirs travel long distances in search of food normally using the same paths. All tapirs are good hill climbers and swim well as they enjoy bathing and wallowing. They live in small groups comprising a pair of adults or a mother and her young.
